This amazing art installation was created in Gore, by Ten local primary schools. They have participated in a series of workshops with artists Jo Ogier, Janet de Wagt, and Jacqueline Byars.
The schools include East Gore School, Pukerau School, Waikaka School, West Gore School, St Mary’s School, Knapdale School, Te Tipua School, Mataura School, Tuturau School and Riversdale School.
The workshops were in response to my exhibition, He Wai Apakura – Te Ara Pounamu, The River’s Lament – A Pathway of Treasures at the Eastern Southland Gallery.
The children have created their own 2D and 3D wildlife artworks using a variety of recycled materials and techniques. Their enthusiasm, use of colour and form is just outstanding.
The finished scene colourfully illustrates just some of the many species of flora and fauna that once defined Māruawai and the wider Mataura River Valley.
It is JUST AWESOME! Due to popular demand THIS EXHIBITION HAS BEEN EXTENDED INTO MARCH 2025
