The Interloper – Wallaby

Printmaking

The Bennett’s or Red-necked Wallaby Macropus rufogriseus was introduced into New Zealand in the 1870s for sport and has since become a well established pest species in the Waimate and the surrounding South Canterbury area. Their diet includes native vegetation including snow tussock, young forestry plantings and pasture. Clover flowers, dandelion and dock leaves are amongst their favourite foods.
